Society Update

 

CSSS Is An Official Supporter of the 2013 ISDC

Chicago Society for Space Studies is an official supporter of the 32nd International Space Development Conference being held at the La Jolla Hyatt Regency in San Diego on May 23-28. The conference theme is Global Collaboration in 21st Century Space.. For additional information visit the ISDC 2013 web site.

 

CSSS Congratulates Member Lynne Zielinski

Congratulations to Chicago Society for Space Studies member Lynne Zielinski for receiving the National Space Club's National Space Educator Award. For details see CSSS Member Lynne Zielinski Receives National Space Educator Award.

 

Speakers Bureau Members Speak Space

Chicago Society for Space Studies is very fortunate to have a very active group of volunteer speakers who provide educational presentations to a wide variety of groups. A list of all relevant presentations made by members of our Speakers Bureau is available on our 2012 Activities page.

 

NewSpace Resource Added To ChicagoSpace.org

A resource page that contains annotated links to a variety of NewSpace companies, relevant conferences and organizations has been added to the CSSS web site. This resource can be accessed at the NewSpace Resources and Links page. Note that this is the initial release of this resource and that it's content will be expanded over time.

April 11: NUSTARS Yuri's Night

The Northwestern University Space and Technology Rocketry Society (NUSTARS) will be hosting a Yuri's night event that features a screening of the film Taming of the Fire, an epic from the Soviet Union about the history of its space program (English subtitles, runtime 160 minutes). Catered food from a local Russian restaurant will be provided before the movie begins at 7:30PM. There will be an intermission break after the first act.

April 20: Astronomy Day at Harper College

CSSS speakers Jim Kovac and Jim Plaxco will be giving presentations as a part of the Northwest Suburban Astronomers and the Harper College Department of Physical Sciences Astronomy Day festivities at Harper College. Jim Kovac's presentation is The Universe in Images - Galaxies, Nebulas, and the Dark Side and Jim Plaxco's presentation is The NewSpace Frontier.

April 28: NewSpace Frontier Program

The Winnetka-Northfield Library, with the support of the NSS Illinois North Shore, the Chicago Space Frontier L5 Society, and the Chicago Society for Space Studies will host The NewSpace Frontier presentation that explores the exciting world of newspace. The presentation will be given by CSSS President Jim Plaxco.
